I think they were making the statement from their perspective that I use the fandom for popularity or something, but I’ve actually seen this sentiment directed at one of my friends before (Ron I’m lookin at you) - it floored me when they got it and it floored me when I got it.

I guess the idea that someone can read only a portion of something and like what they read feels insulting to the people who devote a lot more time and energy to it… which is understandable to a degree, but when you take a step back it just seems really ridiculous. Like “get out of here if you’re not gonna LIKE IT RIGHT.”
